ENS, a combination of a telephone database, Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping technologies, and an internet based activation system, delivers emergency notifications to citizens or emergency response groups via a phone system and the internet. The system has the ability not only to communicate via the phone, but by email, cell phone text message, and the TTY phone for the hearing impaired. The system was purchased from Emergency Management Telecommunications, Inc. (EMTEL) at a cost of approximately $120,000.
